Hey guys, welcome to Learn Feng Shui podcast. Ranked Shun tradition meets modern living and each week we cover a different aspect of Feng Shui or Chinese metaphysics. Today we're going to be talking about bedrooms covering a little bit of Feng Shui. And I'm your host Candice Berlanga certified Feng Shui practitioner. Again, we're talking about one of the most important spaces in your home for energy and well-being, which is your bedroom.

Today we're going to be covering why that bedroom matters so much. Talking about the important factors for creating supportive energy and what you don't need to worry about. Your bedroom work for sleep relationships and overall energy. Today is the episode for you. Let's get into it.

Alright guys, well, let's start by talking about why your bedroom matters more than you might think. It really is a very important part of Feng Shui. Your bedroom is actually where you spend a huge portion of your life, things like sleeping, resting, reading, sometimes even working. It's also one of the most important rooms for your energy, where your bedrooms arrange the shapes, the placement and even the support behind your bed. All of that can quietly affect how you feel, even connect with others and surprisingly, but you didn't know this.

How you show up in your career. So relationships for example, the bed is one of the most symbolic pieces of furniture and Feng Shui. It does represent partnership, intimacy, balance. If your bed's hard to access too close to a door or even not properly supported, it can send the message of instability or imbalance in your relationship. And even you're so forth, you might not even notice it consciously.

But your environment can influence how you relate to your partner, how you communicate and how you feel even about yourself and the security in your relationship. There's also your interstate, so your emotional and mental clarity. Sleep is when your body and mind process all the stress and emotions and heal and rejuvenate. So your bedroom does set the stage for this. A room with a bad layout, maybe stagnant energy, a strange chaotic arrangement can make you feel restless, anxious or even foggy headed maybe you don't sleep well.

That's why classical Feng Shui emphasizes forms and structure. First, we'll talk about that. That's one of the most important things. So the shapes, the angles and position in the room is very important. Finally, your bedroom can affect your career and the authority hold it work.

This might surprise you at first. But if you think of it this way, your bedroom is where your personal energy is anchored down. So if it's a misaligned cluttered structure of wrong this energy that sets the foundation can feel unstable. So that instability can show up as low motivation, hesitation, decision making, and patterns, I'll hold you back at work, maybe some self sabotaging type things. Your environment is shaping how you show up in life.

So I hope you can kind of understand why now your bedroom is one of the most important features of your home and in classical Feng Shui, where does this start guys we covered it a couple episodes ago. And that's forms. So actually the placement of your bed, the shape of your room and support behind you. It's not just an aesthetic choice. It's a foundation for all of your emotional health, your relationships, and even your career, everything else like color clutter decor and everything else comes secondary after that.

It's remember going back and laying that foundation of Feng Shui. One of the most important things you can do is look at what is called the Feng Shui forms and the placement or location where your furniture is and whether it supports you. Okay. So the forms of the room itself in classical Feng Shui. Form always comes first because everything else will depend on it as we talked about the color, the decor is a clutter.

That is a factor, but it's kind of secondary. Okay. What you want to look at is how the room is shaped the position of the bed and the surrounding environment. And that is when it's going to guide the energy to your bed and support you in life. We talk about forms in a bedroom.

We're really thinking about shape, support and surrounding structure. There's often mirrors some land form outside. So let's kind of go back to some basics here, a solid wall behind your bed, preferably a headboard. It creates stability like a mountain behind you. You want your head supported so you feel grounded you feel secure.

You want to open space in front of your bed that allows energy to flow. Remember, like that gentle river should be to chaotic clutter around it. The side of your bed also matter from the perspective of someone that's lying down. So when you're laying there, the left and right sides can be different, just like we talk about land form Feng Shui and what's on the outside of your home. The left side is considered stronger and more active side, a gang side traditionally masculine.

And the right side is more supportive traditionally considered feminine or in. And ideally the room reflects balance with nothing pressing down no beams over your head. One side tire messier. It can disrupt the corresponding person's energy. I've been battling with my daughter with this because the right side of her bed is very messy.

And we fixed it where she has a small little table on that side of her bed on the right side. But she always tends to turn around and put all her little jewelry or trash or cups. Everything her phone everything like that goes on the right side of her bed. And we're actually dealing with some issues right now, which I'm going to get into in just a second. I can tell you how that's going to affect again thinking about that land form Feng Shui.

We can bring in a concept also what is called the four select shoulders of four guardians. Okay. This is symbolic creature that represents protection and balance and energy flow in your space. So remember behind your bed. That's going to be what's called the black tortoise that's supporting headboard or wall.

And then you're going to have your foundation. It brings you stability and rest and helps you feel support in life. That's why I'm very big proponent of getting a headboard. I've even seen guys. They have sticky headboards where you can literally just stick it behind your your bed on the wall.

And there is something there. Okay. It would be attached to the bed, but I know some people are under maybe monetary constraints. You can't buy a headboard right now. Consider putting something like that before I had a headboard.

I actually put a mural behind my bed. That was wood. So it was literally just one of those printed murals that you can hang up as a six foot long mural. I put that right behind my bed. And it kind of mimicked a headboard.

Do with that what you will. Okay. Try to make it work with whatever you can. But try and create that foundation. And at least represent a headboard if you can't get a real one.

Now look into the left side of you from somebody that's lying down again. That's the green dragon side. You may have heard that this is the gang side, the masculine side. It represents support growth action. And again, the gang side of your bed.

On the right side, this is called the white tiger represents balance and even caution and a feminine energy and energy. This side will need to be lower than the left side. Left side could be a little bit higher. The right side could be a little bit lower, just like landform function. If you have a higher cabinet, you're going to put that on the left side.

You could put a little table on the right side, whatever, that's fine. This brings me back to what I was saying about my daughter. She's a messy right side of her bed. Well, I have also learned that this is associated with your health, especially the female health of that room. If it's cluttered messy, if you have a just up there, if it's higher, then you may have some health problems, particular with your legs.

And I guess what guys, my daughter was diagnosed with auto munitions that affect her legs. I've tried to arrange a furniture. There's really no way to rearrange a furniture. What you can do if that happens is you can suppress that that white tiger, the right side of the bed, and you can move the bed of against the wall on the right side and only have the left side of it. So a little trick there, guys.

The foot of the bed represents the red phoenix, which symbolizes movement creativity and life energy, the key that flows to your bed. Going back to the right and left side for couples, this is especially important. Ideally for each person sleep on their corresponding side of the bed, domestic or energy. If you are male, you sleep on the left side, if you're female, you sleep on the right side of the bed. That way each had supported properly by the energy of that room.

And again, we talked about the forms or the furniture around the bed should select reflect that celestial position higher on the left side lower on the right side. Okay, it helps keep balance and even stability in the relationship. So when you're looking at the bedroom through a classical fung sway, you're not just placing a bed randomly. You want to think about energy flow, which has the better support it and how surrounding forms walls furniture or even shapes and height of nearby spaces can mirror those celestial guardians and what creates a room that actually supports relationships rest and life energy, not just a pretty setup getting a little bit more into bedroom setup, which is a little bit hard when I'm trying to do it over podcast instead of video. I'm going to be reading here through a fung sway for home buyers interior addition, second by Joey, yep.

And I'm going to go over some bed placements that are ideal. Remember, you want to ideally see the door have your bed up against a solid wall without windows, not under beams or sloped ceilings. So that's number one in placement. You always want to see the door, but not be directly facing it. What if your feet point out a bathroom door?

Does this matter? Joey abs says generally a bed should not be positioned in alignment with the door be it the bedroom or bathroom door. This is because the chief of the door clashes right into the bed. If you can't move to any other position, think of the chief off from the bedroom by placing a screen between the door and the bed. Make sure the screen is the same height as the door.

And one of the things that we kind of talk about in my my fung sway study group is that you can also just put like a cabinet there. So if you have a door on the right or left side of you, you know, our bedroom door or our bathroom doors kind of middle of the room. So we don't directly face it, but it's off to the side. Well, I don't have enough room or else I would place a cabinet and that cabinet does have to be higher than like your hip when you're sleeping. So say you're sleeping on your side, you want the cabinet, maybe to be like four and a half feet tall.

Okay. So you can put it there between your bed and the door to stop the energy from hitting you. Remember water is something you want to keep out of the bedroom. So when it comes to water. So continuing on Joey, you have talks about water features.

He talks about water beds. He says he sure that it's fine. If you even feel comfortable sleeping in one. He says he doesn't recommend it for prosperity and harmony. And just to kind of piggyback on that I've known people that have had water beds because I'm old and I mean they were very popular in the 80s and 90s.

I most notably I think one of my friends had a really big water bed. And her relationship was never stable. And I think about that all the time when I think about water beds. A water features you don't want to water feature in your bedroom because you're going to hear that sound constantly constant running water splashing dripping. It does say here that makes a sound Shaw.

Okay, long term constant exposure to sound. Shaw's can cause psychological instability. So in cause mental health issues. And remember water is you know energy. It does activate an area.

A fish tank or water feature is not really a place for a bedroom. I also think about I watched that Selena show if you are familiar with the singer. Selena, I keep the Nia who passed away very tragically in her early 20s when she was hitting the very height of her fame. She was actually murdered by her president of her fan club. If you're not familiar.

So every time I watch that show or I watch the movie, most notably there was a fish tank behind their their head. It was like a fish tank headboard. Very cool looking, but I can't help but notice towards end of her life. She was under so much stress so much strain. She I don't think she had mental health problems.

But just a lot of stress a lot of stressors. She was worked so hard. And she was just run really ragged. And I think was you know as depicted she was very ready for a break. She was going to take her a little sabbatical and try and have a family and stuff.

So the constant amount of pressure she was under and a constant amount of stress that she was dealing with trying to get everything under control. And I just can't help thinking about that fish tank and the headboards that does not lead to a conductive night sleep. Even though her career was soaring. That doesn't mean you're doing good in other areas of your life. Sometimes it's a trade off a little insight there.

Sometimes things are going really well, which I'm going to talk about just a second with flying stars and whatnot and fun. But sometimes things will go really well in one aspect of your life. And you think it's not affecting you. Maybe you need to rethink some other things in your life. Moving on though.

Next part of the book here bedroom ceiling is slanted. Remember it can create an imbalance of Chi. Sometimes you'll have a restless night sleep. So if this is the case though moved a bed to the sleep at the higher end of the ceiling rather than the lower end if possible. So you could do that bedroom at a basement.

You know the basements are said to not have Chi if a bed is underground said to have bad circulation. It's kind of hard though to say unless it's properly evaluated honestly. If you live in a two story in your bedrooms above a kitchen, you're going to want to make sure that the kitchen below that the stove is not below where you're sleeping. So it's okay if the kitchen's there. This is my son's room actually has a room in our upstairs like a little loft area upstairs and is right above our kitchen.

Well, I just made sure I position the bed where it's not going to be right above the stove because it could make you more moody cranky to fermental. You know, be careful of that. Okay. If you live in a small house where the stove is next to your bed. Then you can put like a little partition or something like that.

Um, you know, not very common, but maybe in tiny houses, a small apartment stuff like that. I could see where this could be a issue, especially in I've seen some really small apartments. I'm addicted to New York apartment TikToks and little tiny living spaces. A lot of them don't really have a proper stove but like a rice cooker hot plate, something like that. That's okay because you can move that around, but I mean, a stove right next to the bed creates access a fire element.

Note it in the book here. It says it won't bring peace or stability to your sleep aside from that. It can be a little bit dangerous to have it next year, but if you can put a screen or a divider there, then you should be fine. Screensure dividers help a lot. Another thing to avoid too many plants.

So a lot of people have a lot of plants in their space, which is fine, not in the bedroom. It's a growing chi. Okay, it says here it generates Yang energy being too active, not really recommended for bedroom. If you want plants in your bedroom, do some fake ones. Okay, where it's not actually growing aside from that some of the taller indoor plants, take a lot of space, which may block sunlight, making a room to in.

You don't want that either. It says here if you do have plants in your bedroom, keep them small and nominal regulate them to about any if possible. Usually used to soften the impact of Sha Qi generated by a corner room door pointing towards the bed. In that case, you put a plant there between the bed and the Sha Qi, which I've heard before, I recommend quite a bit. Okay, what if your work desk is in your bedroom, while he talks about that to many people think it's bad luck or it's not good to have a work desk in your room.

That's not necessarily true. It says this is a misconception, whether or not working in your bedroom impact your sleep or work has nothing to do with fun. Many people convert a study or spare room into an extra bedroom, leaving no dedicated study space. Besides, a bedroom has a benefit of being quiet and private space ideal for those seeking to concentrate or work or studies. I think this is my husband's thing.

He really likes just sitting in his recliner work and in the room. Therefore, based on fun story principles, there's nothing wrong with having a work desk or work station in your bedroom. In fact, your bedroom is located in a good sector of your home, or sees positive energy. You can have the dual benefit of good work and sleep. A cluttered bedroom is also addressed.

So we see this a lot, especially with kids rooms guys, a cluttered room means that she is not flowing smoothly since the clutter forms various obstacles and barriers that hinder movement. So even from a merely common sense perspective, clutter is unhygienic and demotivating as psychological effects. I've heard that visible clutter also can trigger anxiety and stress. So from a fun toy perspective, a cluttered bedroom impedes good energy and results in stagnant cheat, which in turn, it will also help problems since the bedroom's cover relationships, a cluttered room can cause problems in that aspect also. Does the color of your bedroom matter?

However, in some cases, color seems to have been proven to have some psychological effects on the occupants of the household. So neutral and comfortable colors are usually recommended for a bedroom. But it does say also colors not considered a primary concern and assessing the fun show every room. And that just depends on what school you're in. He also talks about things like shelving pillars in your bedroom, slope ceilings, which we kind of cover.

And also like if your bedroom door faces another door and some negative and positive formations highly recommend you picking this book up. It is a good one and it talks about all aspects of the home. Just briefly touching not getting too much into it, because it's a lot of information. But another thing a lot of people look at when they set the room up is their one number. And this is your personal best direction.

Remember with eight mansions or the lucky directions, there's a couple of ways to think about it. So your personal eight mansions is based on your own personal number. And this is the directions that support your personal energy. And the other is actually the home eight mansion, which comes from the house's layout and orientation. And affects everybody living there.

Both are helpful, but remember proper forms always come first. So we do that first in my personal opinion, the only time the the a mansions work quickly is when you are sick and you're using that heavenly doctor position. So there's that also flying stars. So you might have heard about flying stars. It's a system that tracks energy patterns over time and can definitely be applied to your bedroom in various different ways.

Remember there's house flying stars. There's yearly flying stars as monthly flying stars. But again, it's going to be secondary the forms of the room, your bed placement and basically I always come first. You flying stars energy can move throughout your house and you don't need to rearrange your bedroom every year. Even if you're sleeping in that five star or the two illness star, the main thing to be aware of is that yearly and monthly stars can influence your health relationships, you know, career temporarily.

And if it's considered negative, maybe you can just place a little cure there and adjustment, but you don't have to move your bedroom, your bedroom furniture constantly just to follow flying stars. I'm more about being aware and making some small tweaks, if necessary. Personally, again, I'm going to say it again, I'd like to set a bedroom up. According to the forms and you basically leave it there and leave it alone. Specifically when I'm following a certain formula, you can do bed placement for everything from having a baby in conceiving to helping with your health and career.

I helped a couple conceive. I wasn't physically in the room with them, I promised, but I positioned their bed and did a specific calculation. And that's one of my favorite stories. The husband was robbing a Feng Shui actually gave them date selection. They were doing IVF and they successfully conceived a child, which again, one of my favorite stories.

The position is usually set and leave it there besides the position, those forms, the bed placement, the poor support and overall structure of the room is your foundation. And once these forms are correct, you can layer these enhancements like the celestial, the guan numbers, a mansions and flying stars, they're kind of optional to fine tune energy. So remember, your bedroom is where you again, some regenerate. And small changes in the layout or support can make a big difference in relationships, your emotional balance and even life energy. So just keep it practical, start with what matters most and everything else will fall into place.

Alright, let's go into our folklore Friday segment and we're going to talk about some of the myths surrounding your bedroom. Alright guys, folklore Friday, we're going to look at five Feng Shui myths. I've compiled in my own, just from stuff I've encountered over the years. Okay, myth number one, is this really a myth? You're a wedding photo or pictures of you or your relatives in the bedroom.

Should they be placed? What I've heard is that you can place a wedding photo, but some traditions say you can't place a wedding photo above your bed because it symbolizes lying in your own grave. I've never heard that before. I've heard certain cultures say you can place it on a side table on a wall, however, I would avoid placing pictures of relatives and deities in your bedroom. Only because when you turn your lights off, you have pictures of, you know, your relatives there and they're just watching you and what are you doing in your bedroom, you know.

So even though it's semi superstition, I still wouldn't place pictures of relatives in the bedroom. Wedding photo is okay. I wouldn't place it above my bed just because I wouldn't want to fall in, but I do not believe it symbolizes laying in your own grave. Okay, number two, the television. I didn't talk about this on the other part of my segment because I have a TV in my room and honestly I fall asleep to it and it's just what it is.

A lot of people do is they're warnings against having a television set directly facing the bed. I've heard this that it can cause a couple to be separated or it can cause a similar effect to a mirror, which says that if you have a mirror in your room, there may be a third party invited into your space. Again, I don't think just placing a television set your bedroom is going to create that kind of energy in your space. So I say this one is definitely a myth. Myth number three, I've heard a lot of people talk about this one, specifically I think Indian traditions sleeping north south orientations called a death position, although it could be could be again heard this the coffin position or death position is not automatically bad.

The idea that does come from burial traditions is not necessarily how living people should sleep. So in funcishway placement in the room, manage more than just a specific direction. I have a bed place north south. It's just fine. And again, I did place it using a specific formula because it fit in with the forms of the room, remember forms of formula.

Myth number four, never store anything under your bed. You know, it would be nice to say this, but in real life, especially in a smaller space, it's not always realistic. It's more about what you're storing underneath. So I would say keeping softer items, comforters, clothing, that type of thing is just fine under the bed. I also hear the myth about storing shoes under the bed.

I just don't because I personally have heard that that's not positive. Anything soft because remember what you're laying on. You know, I could create some energy under there. I should be clearing it out regularly so things don't become heavy or stagnant clean under the bed, often in BTB funcishway. I've heard that cleaning out under the bed too often can stop you from conceiving a baby because you need the energy to gather and collect there.

So maybe not if you're trying to conceive a baby, make sure you keep a little bit of those dust bunnies underneath the bed. Okay. Lastly, at number five, does artwork affect the funcishway of your space? I hear a bunch of different things say you can't have like paintings of water, paintings of legs can cause misunderstanding, restless sleep. However, I'm not one that subscribes a lot to the artwork in your space being impactful for the funcishway.

Now psychologically, I do believe that I can create an effect. So if you have negative or dark paintings in your bedroom, you're waking up to that and you're thinking about that as that kind of energy that you're putting out. So if that's what you're focused on, that's what you're going to get and you don't want that in a bedroom, you want very positive calming and relaxing images in your bedroom. So maybe not a stormy sea, but I do think a lovely beach photo is just fine in your bedroom. Alright guys, we'll hope you enjoyed today's episode about revisiting bedroom funcishway looking at the impacts it can have on you.

What's important and what might not be as well as those myth busting at the end. If you have any questions about your bedroom and lay out of it, you can message me at info at learn funcishway.com. I'll catch you guys next month for the May energy update.
